back from the dead

Wow...xanga? Getting back on this thing is like falling asleep and entering the dream world of reminiscence. For me, it is like dusting off my ol' violin that I used to play and trying to play some forgotten tune. I doubt any of the buddies from years past (high school was 6 1/2 years ago) are still on here, but I really miss those days! Even college (which was not my favorite) offered unlimited friends, diversified life, free weekends not cumbered with study and minimal responsibility. Whose idea was it to grow up, anyway? I always thought that our generation would be different (everyone does). My group was going to be the one that would shake up the world for Christ. We would take the spiritual knowledge imbued by our parents and graft it into a burning desire for service and ministry for the Lord. All this time, we would keep close with each other, encourage each other and be a functional part of the Body of Christ. Enter apathy. Whether this newly found enthrallment presents itself through blending in with the world, career exaltation, marriage, or overt rejection of God's commands, it is turning us into the maladaptively normal group of adults that we hoped we would never be. People are wandering through life clueless, asking (or even worse, not asking), "why am I here?" They now view career and marriage as some sort of culmination in life, as if it would actually bring true satisfaction. We are becoming islands-separated from each other and from God's work for us by a sea of purposelessness, misplaced satisfaction, and worship of status quo achievement.

Wow. I apologize for being depressing :-p That is definitely in my heart, but there is also great joy in my heart from the opportunities that God has opened up in the medical field for me! Every day, I come into contact with people that don't know Him!! It's like a kid in a candy store, or a hunter at cabellas...a bit overwhelming at times. Pray for me that I will have boldness and will recognize opportunities every day to share Him with others!

Ok, I don't think many people will read this, but if you ARE reading this and you're over 18, go vote for McCain on Tuesday. Even if you don't like the man, do we really want to be a socialist country? People love having their ears tickled by Obama, but use what's between your ears to make this decision. If we honor God as a country by saying "no" to homosexual marriage and abortion, the He will take care of us in the way He sees fit as far as the economy goes. By moving toward socialism, we're really just encouraging people to be lazy, not work and leech off of society. And btw, that's not just republican rhetoric, check out the book of Proverbs if you want to learn about laziness. Obama lives in a fantasy world of rhetoric, fantasy and hype.

Ummm...this is all still too serious. So in the last 48 hours, I have consumed 39 Shipley's donuts. If the supply had held, I would have tried to go for 96 donuts in 96 hours. oh well, by the end of the week, it will probably end up around 70 donuts in 96 hours-not too shaby. Anywho, if you want a laugh, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGFwiCgw3HE .

Ahhh...my brain hurts for the nth time since med-school started. Med-school is studying. that's about it. Yeah, I get to hang out with ophelia (my cadaver), risk my life biking to and from the med-center (i've almost been hit 4 times now. My mom asked if I should wear bright clothes, but that would only help the drivers target me quicker. I SHOULD wear camo...), eat dinners with my uberly awesome host fam and sleep (a little), but all of these things are geared toward learning. "But WAIT," you say. "sleeping doesn't involve studying!" Somehow they've even rigged my dreams so that now I'm dreaming about building a house with microtubules and a cytoskeleton, playing "cat's cradle" with a brachial plexus and other things. blah.

I DID have an absolutely incredible weekend! I played at Sara and Jeff's (my roomie from baylor) wedding. At the reception, I got to dance with one of the most fiery girls I've ever swing danced with! we tore up the floor Then, I got to hang out with my bro and sis-in-law. Sunday I got into an AMAZING water/sand/mud/shaving cream fight. it had been awhile since i had been ambushed, so I wasn't expecting the water balloons to come flying down from the roof when I went to help move a ladder. I quickly located a hose and soaked 'em, then threw sand on them. From there, it was on :-p I'm STILL digging sand out of my ears...

Next time going home is in approximately 30 days. Anyone up for launching ketchup-laden spam at sunbathers?

Last night was great I went to a dinner party at a cardiologist's house. Yes, cardiologists get paid something crazy. It was one of the most spectacular houses I've seen in a long time!! I met some people from Wimberley there. Funny thing, 'cause I told them that lived real close to there. When we got down to the details and they described their ranch to me, I got a funny feeling in my stomach. Thanks to trespassing, I realized that I've been ALL over their ranch and prolly know it better than THEY do! It has been the source of many MANY adventures that I've been on in the last 12 years or so...

One of those adventures had to do with mid-night tubing, the newest extreme sport. I met some crazy friend girls at the river on that ranch around 7:30 pm about 2 weeks ago. the objective was to tube from Wimberley to Kyle (didn't know it at the time, but it's probably about an 8-10 mile trip. After finding out that we only had 3 tubes among the 5 of us, finding out that they're very slow tubers, getting my cell phone completely wet and fried even after having double bagged it, and wandering on a ranch trying to figure out where we were for about an hour and a half, it was around 1:00ish AM. Know that our parents were probably panicking because they expected us back around 10:00 and we couldn't call them, we started looking for a way back to my house but to no avail. I figured we were about a third of the way there...we would get to Kyle WELL after the sunrise. Then, I recognized a house. I had seen it like, 10 years ago on some other crazy exploration trip. We ended up finding our way back to my house, then got everyone back home around 3:30ish. It was a BLAST and we didn't get arrested or search-partied.

Last night, we also went to a Jazz club. It was really weird, 'cause it was more stiff than most classical concerts. We got glared at by the pianist for talking in the very first tune that we were there for. Then we had a weird conversation with a lady that butted into our conversation to tell my friends that I seemed like the type that just talked to hear myself talking. She was an opera singer and the wife of the sax player. As the conversation progressed, it became apparent that she considered herself and her husband very highly evolved. it was weird, but kinda comical at the same time.

Anywho, I'm off to the beach. This is my last weekend of freedom before 8-10 hours of study per day (in addition to classes) starts happening. Woot.

In the last 4 days, I...
Ran 15 miles
Biked 12 miles
Just played the worst Preludio from the E major partita I think I have ever played
Studied for a couple hours
worked out twice
updated xanga twice.

I don't like school too much, but it sure scrapes the rust off of my fat self.

I was thinking the other day about how God calls each one of us to FULL TIME services for Him. I say "services" because we should not be satisfied with merely one aspect of ministry. Yes, school/work can be ministry, but instead of watching TV for the rest of the day, why don't we get off our glutes and evangelize/visit/minister? We should always be about our Father's work. I read Isaiah 6, and noticed that after God had purified Isaiah, then He called Him:

Whom shall I send and Who will go for Me?

Did Isaiah say, "There he is, Lord, send him?"

No.

Why are we so eager and satisfied to be used so little by God?

Hello again, school. Hello again, need for a creative outlet. Hello again, Xanga. Goodbye, time. So I have no clue as to whether this is gonna happen or not, but we'll see

So I'm at my apt in Houston. I think it was tougher to say bye to my family this time than it was for undergrad. I'm not quite sure why...but it was very tough. Last night, I cuddled with my chicken leg under my Mexican blanket. It made everything better.

I leave for orientation at 7:00 in the morning. I guess this is where people learn how to wake up early. Whatever the case, I'll sure be doing alot of it in these next 7+ years. Woot.
